Roots and Learning (2000 - 2003)
Luigi Di Caro’s journey into the world of exceptional sandals began in 2000, through a complete immersion in traditional craftsmanship. His training took place on-site at the historic Ferrara family factory (Luna Mulier), custodian of old-school artisanal knowledge. In this environment, Luigi learned the art of full construction: from sole preparation to the manual creation of uppers, all the way to the setting of rhinestone embellishments. It was an apprenticeship grounded in the pursuit of perfection and total production autonomy.
Establishment in Taormina (2002 - 2017)
After debuting in 2002 with the creation of bespoke “on display” sandals, Luigi Di Caro opened “La Bottega del Sandalo” in 2003, the first space in Sicily dedicated exclusively to Capri-style craftsmanship. Immediate success consolidated the brand and led to the opening of a second, prestigious boutique on Vico Zecca, in the heart of Taormina. During this period, production reached the peak of personalization: Luigi designed and hand-set unique jewel embellishments, transforming each sandal into an exclusive work of art.
Technical and Pattern-Making Specialization
To further elevate the value of his creations, Luigi Di Caro complemented his practical experience with rigorous academic training. He graduated as a Footwear Pattern Designer at the Accademia della Moda in Naples, under the guidance of Maestro Giovanni Rodia. This specialization brought a technical-professional approach to his work, combining creative vision with cutting-edge pattern-making precision, eliminating all construction limits.
Elite Experiences and External Collaborations
His established mastery led him to collaborate with prestigious companies in some of the Mediterranean’s most iconic locations:
- Capri (2019): At the boutique “Fiore Capri,” working at the very heart of tradition.
- Santa Margherita Ligure (2021-2024): Multi-year collaboration with “Il Sandalo Caprese,” bringing his expertise to the Ortigia and Alghero locations.
The New Vision: Di Caro Capri Sandals
Driven by an inherently creative nature, Luigi Di Caro now projects his art toward new European horizons. The Di Caro Capri Sandals project represents the culmination of twenty-five years of experience: a fusion of the Neapolitan high school of pattern-making and the purity of “handmade.” Today, the brand positions itself as an ambassador of high Italian craftsmanship, offering an authentically elite product for a refined international audience.”
